Saline County is located in the heart of Arkansas and has a small hometown American feel. We are located in south-central Arkansas and border the counties of Pulaski, Grant, Perry, Garland, and Hot Springs. Saline County is one of Arkansas' fastest-growing counties, with a population growth of 30.1% from 1990 to 2000. Currently the population is estimated at 114,000 in 730 square miles of both urban and rural beauty.
We have several growing cities, which include Benton and Bryant. Benton is the county seat, located geographically in the center of the state and within minutes of metropolitan conveniences. Saline County is named for the early salt works in the area that supplied salt for Arkansas and its bordering states. The county was once the leading producer of bauxite in the nation.
The Sheriff's Office dates back to the 1800s. History indicated that one of the first Sheriffs in Saline County was V. Brazil, who served from 1835-1836.
